Juventus 0-2 Udinese – the latest in a string of Champions League upsets

Juventus have fallen to Udinese 2-1 after the first half was played without a goal.

The Bianconeri had come out on top thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Lorenzo Insigne but the Nerazzurri have now conceded four in the first 30 minutes and they have gone into the break with a point.

It is a game that could prove a tough one as Udinese, who are in the last eight of the competition, are looking for a win.

There is a decent chance that they could have a second successive victory after beating Lazio 1-0 at the weekend, but it was Udinese who took the lead in the 11th minute.

With Juve goalkeeper Manuel Sanguinetti unable to hold off a cross from Diego Fagundez, Sanguinelli saw his header bounce off the crossbar and into the net.

Lazio then made it 3-0 as a corner was pushed past the Udinese keeper before Higuains first goal for Juve.

Sanguinelli was called into action again shortly after the break as Higuards penalty kick was blocked by Pizzicari.

At the other end, Andrea Pirlo put Udinese ahead with a curling strike, but the visitors failed to find a way past a well-organised Juve defence.

They were then awarded a penalty for a foul on Udinese captain Andrea Agnelli in the box, but Alessandro Nesta headed wide.

Juve started the second half with an attack-minded approach and the visitors had little chance to turn the game around.

Despite being down the field for the first time since mid-January, Udinese started to make the difference.

Ajax keeper Jonas Hofmann, who has played just nine minutes in all competitions, made a smart stop from the right side of the box to deny Agnellio and Juve went close to doubling their advantage with a first-time effort from the spot.

Gonzalo Higuaín was also on target for Udinese and the hosts came back into the game after a long period without a shot.

Nesta’s shot was cleared off the line and the goal was confirmed when Sanguini pushed the ball home from close range.

This result will see Juve move up to fifth place in the table, three points behind Lazio, while Udinese drop to ninth.
