A woman in a car seat and baby in an SUV dies in a crash
A mother and her 2-year-old baby died in a collision on the Interstate Highway 5 north of Phoenix on Sunday, officials said.
The mother and baby were in the passenger seat of the car when it went over a bridge on Interstate 5 in Prescott, Arizona, about 10:15 a.m.
ET, Arizona Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sgt. Erin O’Malley said.
The car swerved and struck a tractor-trailer.
The mother was taken to a hospital and the baby was transported to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, O’Melley said.
There was no immediate word on a cause of death.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the highway was shut down for hours as crews worked to remove debris from the crash scene.
A red light was flashing before the accident, and the driver of the tractor-tractor could be heard yelling for help, according to a statement from the Prescott Police Department.
The highway reopened about an hour later and reopened at 1:30 p.m., O’Neill said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
